Inflation rose to 2.46% in Sept


Muscat – Inflation rate in the sultanate increased by 2.46 per cent in September 2021 compared to September 2020.

According to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) on Consumer Price Index, the rise is attributed to increase in prices of major segments such as transportation (up 8.19 per cent); miscellaneous goods and services (3.33 per cent); recreational activites (2.05 per cent); food (1.87 per cent); furnishing, household appliances and maintenance (1.32 per cent); restaurants and hotels (0.83 per cent); housing, water, electricity and fuel (0.4 per cent); and clothing, footwear, health and education (0.08 per cent each).

Simultaneously, the price of communication services decreased by 0.08 per cent.

According to NCSI, prices of non-alcoholic beverages rose 6.61 per cent; fish and seafood 4.43 per cent; oils and fats 2.08 per cent; bread and cereals 1.76 per cent; sugar, jam, honey and sweets 1.45 per cent; meat 1.33 per cent; vegetables 1.16 per cent; and milk, cheese and eggs 0.29 per cent.

In contrast, prices of fruits fell by 0.03 per cent in September 2021 compared to September 2020.
