WTT Youth Contender
Muscat – Oman’s Luqman al Farsi continued to impress for the second successive day as he sealed a spot in the last-32 (knockout) stage of the U15 boys’ singles of the ongoing 2021 WTT Youth Contender Muscat at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Monday. Also reaching the last-32 round was another Omani paddler – Mashal al Shehi – in U19 boys’ singles.
Luqman, who lost in the last-32 stage of the U17 event on Sunday, finished second in his group on Monday to advance. The Omani blanked Sri Lanka’s Lithum Singappulige 3-0 but lost to Qatar’s Khalid al Yafei 1-3.
The other Omani players in the U15 event – Moayad al Mutawa, Said al Awadi, Ayman al Shehi, Ali al Ghafri, Mohammed al Mutawa, Mohammed al Jassasi – failed to advance.
Luqman will meet Saudi Hadi Abualrahi for a place in the pre-quarterfinals. Mashal beat Qatar’s Ahmed Saadawi 3-1 but lost to India’s Yashansh Malik 0-3 to finish second and advance. Oman’s Bader al Jassasi lost both his matches to exit in the U19 event.
The boys’ competition will conclude on Tuesday and after a rest day, girls’ competition will commence on Thursday.
