The National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM) reported the first casualty of cyclonic storm Shaheen on Sunday when a child drifted in a pool of water and was later found dead in Amerat.
Another person is reported to be missing in Amerat. He was found drifting in his vehicle in a wadi.
The NCEM urged parents to monitor their children and not let them venture out unattended.
Gusty wind exceeding 45 knots is blowing over Muscat. The wind is likley to intensify further as the tropical cyclone approaches the coastline.
