Muscat – Oman has completed preparations to open to the world its pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai and receive visitors starting Friday, October 1.
The sultanate will be joining 191 countries in hosting visitors from around the world for 182 days in their respective pavilions, each one presenting a new experience under the slogan ‘Connecting Minds and Creating the Future’.
Mohsen bin Khamis al Balushi, advisor at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and commissioner general of Oman’s participation at Expo 2020, informed that the sultanate seeks the involvement of the world at the event in finding innovative solutions to meet the challenges facing humanity and maximise the benefits for the country at all levels.
As part of the preparations for Oman’s participation in the expo, Qais al Yousuf, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and chairman of the main committee supervising the sultanate’s participation, visited the pavilion on Monday morning.
During the visit, Yousef met Reem al Hashemi, UAE’s Minister of State for International Cooperation and director general of Expo 2020.
Through its participation, the sultanate will present the achievements of Omani civilisation throughout history, as well as highlight its current achievements, its renewed renaissance and future aspirations under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
“Through our participation, we aim to highlight Oman as a distinct destination for tourism and doing business, highlighting the Omani identity and our ancient heritage while promoting investment opportunities in various sectors,” Balushi infirmed.
Oman’s pavilion will host a series of events and exhibitions, including scientific, artistic, cultural and economic seminars, Omani products exhibitions, an exhibition for small and medium enterprises, and Omani Investment Week.
The exhibitions will display more than 2,000 types of goods and products made by nearly 400 SMEs, including craftsmen, productive families and rural women, with the aim of promoting and selling these in the global event.
Glittering line-up of global stars to open expo
Dubai, UAE – The opening ceremony of Expo 2020 Dubai on September 30 is poised to be a mega event.
Celebrated Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli will lead the line-up at the iconic Al Wasl Plaza along with Golden Globe-winning actress, singer and songwriter Andra Day, platinum-selling British pop star Ellie Goulding, Chinese pianist Lang Lang and four-time Grammy winning singer-songwriter Angelique Kidjo.
Regional artists like the ‘Artist of Arabs’ Mohamed Abdu, Emirati singing sensation Ahlam al Shamsi and Expo 2020 ambassador Hussain al Jassmi will perform for live as well as global TV and online audience.
The opening ceremony is co-curated and co-produced by Franco Dragone, the creative director behind groundbreaking productions such as Cirque du Soleil and La Perle, and Scott Givens, president and CEO of FiveCurrents, the award-winning creators behind major live events including Olympic ceremonies and stunning New Year’s Eve celebrations worldwide.
