The Royal Army of Oman (RAO) and the United States Army’s Infantry units concluded a joint drill codenamed ‘Valley of Fire 2021’ on Thursday.
The concluding event was attended by Brig Hamid Abdullah al Balushi, commander of RAO’s 11th Infantry Brigade. During the 11-day exercise, the RAO was represented by the 11th Infantry Brigade.
The exercise was conducted with the participation of the Sultan of Oman’s Parachutes Regiment, the Sultan of Oman’s Armoured Division, the Sultan of Oman’s Artillery Regiment, the Royal Air Force of Oman and the SAF Signals and Engineering divisions.
The joint drill kicked off at Thumrait Air Base in Dhofar governorate amid precautions to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
Simulation and role-playing tasks of the exercise were aimed to provide training in accordance with a macro plan set by the RAO to achieve the desired national objectives. Such plans seek to maintain preparedness and high combat ability. They come within the context of annual training programmes carried out in cooperation with friendly countries to exchange expertise in military fields. The concluding event was also attended by senior officers from RAO’s 11th Infantry Brigade and the US Army.
