Omari is new OAA chief; Miqbali elected OVA president


Sheikh Salim al Omari was on Saturday elected as the new chairman of the Oman Athletics Association (OAA) for the 2021-2024 term, a day after the Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) got its new chief in Ibrahim al Miqbali.

Elections of various sports bodies are due over the next few weeks with all eyes on the Oman Football Association (OFA) election on August 28.

On Saturday, the OAA general assembly, with 36 clubs’ representatives present at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, elected Omairi as the new boss while Said al Hadi was elected as vice-president. Asaad al Hassani is the new general secretary while Hamdan al Boushri is the treasurer. Khoula al Rawahi won the woman board member post and she was joined by four other board members – Abdullah al Zahouri, Hamoud al Shabibi, Khalfan al Waeli and Mohammed al Balushi.

On Friday, the OVA general assembly saw a new board elected for the 2021-24 term in the presence of representatives of 23 clubs. Miqbali’s board  will have Salem al Jabri as the vice-chairman, Mohammed al Hashmi as the general secretary and Qais Said as the treasurer.

Saada al Azri won the board member post reserved for woman. The other board members are Khalid al Araimi, Rasheed Mubarak, Salem al Balushi and Issa al Balushi.
