One COVID-19 death reported every two hours over 3 days; 978 new cases

Oman recorded a COVID-19 related death every second hour over the three days from Thursday, while as many as 978 new cases were registered during the period, said Ministry of Health. 

On Thursday, 392 new cases and ten deaths were reported, followed by 321 cases and 12 deaths on Friday and 265 cases and 14 deaths on Saturday. 

This brings the total number of positive cases to 296,835 and deaths to 3,850, the Ministry of Health said, adding that 1,697 patients have recovered during the period, taking the total number of recoveries to 279,892. During the past 24 hours, the ministry said 39 people needed hospitalisation, which took the total number of inpatients to 550 with 232 being in intensive care units. 


Second dose 


The ministry on Sunday began administering the second dose of COVID-19 vaccines for those who have completed ten weeks since getting the first dose.

In the Governorate of Muscat, Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre and the Sahil Health Centre in Quriyat saw a great turnout. The ministry emphasised the importance of booking appointments in advance before heading to vaccination centres.
