27 Jun 2021

As part of its efforts to plant 10mn trees, the Environment Authority (EA) will launch a drive to plant 1mn seeds that it collected recently in Dhofar over a week starting today.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Eng Mohammed SalimHardan, head of the wild seed collection and planting team at EA, said, “We recently started collecting 1mn wild seeds from all regions in Dhofar. These seeds include sidr, samr, al ghaf, etc.”

He added, “The authority, in cooperation with volunteer teams, will launch the first phase of the project in some wilayats of Dhofar, including Dalkout, Rakhyut, Salalah and Taqa. More than 200 volunteers will join us for this campaign. The first phase of the project will be from June 28 to July 4 and will last for five hours a day.”

He said the project is part of planting 10mn wild trees. “We aim to cultivate the lands that have been subjected to desertification. We chose this time because it is the rainy season in Dhofar that will help us plant wild seeds in a better way,” he said.

“We urge all members of society to cooperate with us and participate in the first stage of cultivation of wild plants to increase green spaces.”
