The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning has called on expatriate owners to transfer ownership of land and real estate used for any purpose located in sites where ownership is prohibited to expats.
A statement said, ‘Within the framework of the executive procedures of the law prohibiting expatriates from owning land and real estate in some sites, issued by Royal Decree No 28/2018, the ministry calls for the transfer of ownership of all land and real estate used for any purpose to Omanis no later than October 31, 2021.
‘The ministry also calls on the owners of land and real estate usufruct contracts for use of any purpose located in prohibited sites to transfer rights to Omanis no later than June 28, 2022.’
The ministry also confirmed that the sites where expats are prohibited from owning land and real estate for any use are the governorates of Musandam, Buraimi, Dhahirah, Al Wusta and Dhofar (except the wilayat of Salalah); the wilayats of Liwa, Shinas and Masirah; Jebel Akhdar and any other mountainous area of strategic importance; islands; sites close to palaces, security and military authorities as determined by competent authorities; archaeological sites and historical location as determined by competent authorities; and all gricultural lands.
