COVID-19 infections are surging with the daily case count now hovering over 2,000 everyday as hospitals face acute pressure. The number of deaths is also on the rise after 35 people succumbed to the virus on Thursday, the highest single-day toll so far. The previous highest – 33 – was reported on June 15.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Health (MoH) reported 2,015 cases taking the total number registered in the sultanate to 242,723, including 2,626 deaths. The total number of recoveries is 213,880, accounting for a recovery rate of 88.1 per cent.
Bed occupancy in the COVID-19 field hospital in Seeb surpassed 90 per cent and its intensive care unit is filled to capacity.
‘The total number of inpatients across Oman has reached 1,306, including 382 in intensive care,’ the MoH said in a statement on Thursday.
