15 Jun 2021

The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced three confirmed cases of mucormycosis, commonly called ‘black fungus’, in Oman on Tuesday.

In a statement, MoH said, ‘Three cases of mucormycosis have been registered among patients who tested positive with COVID-19.’

Mucormycosis is a complication caused by a fungal

infection. Patients get mucormycosis by coming in contact with fungal spores in the environment. The disease is increasingly being detected among patients who are recovering or have recovered from COVID-19 when they have reduced immunity.
