49 per cent citizens unwilling to get jab: Survey

The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) in cooperation with the Ministry of Health (MoH) conducted a survey in December 15-31, 2020, on vaccine acceptance and awareness. The survey covered 3,000 participants – 67 per cent Omanis and 33 per cent residents.

The study revealed that 51 per cent of Omanis were willing to take the vaccine (57 per cent males and 38 per cent females). Among expatriates, 68 per cent were willing to get vaccinated (69 per cent males and 59 per cent females). 

Additionally, 84 per cent of those willing to get vaccinated were willing to take two doses, and 42 per cent would have no worries and recommend their families and friends to do the same. The survey indicated that 88 per cent of society was aware of COVID-19 vaccines (93 per cent Omanis and 79 per cent residents).

It also showed that the level of awareness ranged from average to high (awareness of symptoms and prevention methods – 96 per cent, mode of infection – 95 per cent, and what to do on emergence of symptoms – 95 per cent).
