Mwasalat and NFC to merge to boost public transport

9 Jun 2021

Asyad Group is planning to integrate the operations of Oman National Transport Company (Mwasalat) and National Ferries Company (NFC) to strengthen the country’s public transportation system by providing safe, convenient and easily accessible services.

The consolidation of the companies is aimed at enhancing spending efficiency, improving service quality, and providing outstanding transportation services through an integrated digital platform that will link land and sea transport services. It will also merge the customer service outlets of both service providers in different regions of the sultanate.

The board of directors of Asyad has decided to restructure the group’s business units in line with its efforts to focus on key logistics activities, such as port services, free zones, shipping, dry-docks, e-commerce services, and last-mile delivery.

The decision comes as part of Asyad’s efforts to boost its local and international commercial presence, in light of its plans to expand and enhance performance.

The restructuring of Asyad’s business units will also result in dissolution of Oman Roads and Transport Management Company (ORTMC), according to a statement.

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology will supervise all transport and road management responsibilities previously assigned to ORTMC based on the ministry’s jurisdiction under the new state administrative apparatus.

Highlighting its future plans, Asyad stated that it will focus on the directions of Oman Investment Authority in cooperating with the private sector.

The group will partner with the private sector which constitutes a fundamental pillar of its new operating model for which several projects have been identified.
