To integrate efforts between the public and private sectors and develop manufacturing industries, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion’s National Industries Development and Omani Product Support Committee held its first meeting on Monday.

Chaired by H E Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, the meeting was attended by members of the committee, representatives of the Tender Board, the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates, Oman Investment Authority, Industrial Innovation Centre, the Omani Industrialists Association, Royal Oman Police and private sector firms.

The committee aims to develop and support national industries, supervise the implementation of the Industrial Strategy 2040, develop manufacturing industries, keep pace with technological advancements, and promote a culture of industrial innovation, besides setting programmes and mechanisms to enhance the contribution of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to the industrial sector.

The committee also aims to formulate strategies, policies, procedures and principles to implement in the industrial sector, and find new investment opportunities in order to replace imports and enhance exports. Additionally, it aims to develop programmes and mechanisms to raise the quality of the Omani products to increase their volume of sales in the local and international markets.

The meeting focused on the integration of efforts to promote Omani products and enhance their presence in markets, and an exhibition of Omani products to be held in the last quarter 2021.

The ministry, in partnership with the public and private sectors, recently launched a campaign – titled Made in Oman – to support and promote Omani products locally and regionally, and to find marketing outlets for local products. The campaign is also supporting SMEs display their products in various shopping centres across the sultanate.

The campaign has achieved increased sales of Omani products in some participating commercial centres, and raised awareness among consumers on the significance of purchasing Omani products, besides launching Omani products in a local electronics market.
