The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has set June 1, 2021, as the date for enforcement of ministerial decision No 12/2021 on applying new fees for permits of non-Omani manpower functioning in upper- and medium-level positions, as well as technical and specialist jobs.
The ministry has also announced an incentive for establishments who fulfill Omanisation targets.
‘As per the Economic Stimulus Plan for establishments, there will be a fee reduction in expatriate workforce recruitment permits (as specified in ministerial decision No 12/2021) for upper and intermediate occupations, and technical and specialised professions,’ MoL stated.
The fees will be reduced by 25 per cent for establishments that have Omani workforce and 50 per cent for those that have achieved the Omanisation rate.
According to the ministry, the decision will provide new job opportunities for citizens in the private sector. It covers new as well as previous applications of business owners who failed to pay the prescribed fees prior to the enforcement of this decision.
