3.4 magnitude earthquake reported in Masirah

An earthquake has been reported in Masirah in South Sharqiyah Governorate this morning, according to the Earthquake Monitoring Centre (EMC) at the Sultan Qaboos University.

A statement issued online by the EMC said, “An earthquake struck the fault line of Jalan Bani Bu Ali in Masirah with a 3.4 magnitude, at a depth of 10 km, at 11.23am. The earthquake was recorded 125km away from Sur.”

“The epicenter is 250km from the city of Muscat, 260 km from Duqm, and about 125km from Sur. Such tremors are small in size and will have no effect on houses and people,” said Dr Issa al Hussain, Director of the Seismological Center at Sultan Qaboos University.
