With the aim of saving water and helping farmers, citizens in Nizwa came together to build a dam in Tanuf village.

Built at a cost of RO90,000, the underground recharge dam located in Tanuf near Jebel Akhdar in Dakhliyah governorate, is called ‘Wadi al Musalla’.

Today, it is an important project in the governorate.

Dr Salem al Nabhani, a member of the project’s supervising committee, said, “We started work in December 2020. Excavations were carried out in preparation for the construction work which is now over and the dam is complete. It is 11m high and 30m long.”

The dam has been built of stones and cement concrete according to technical and engineering requirements under the supervision and follow-up of the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources.

The dam includes three exits to discharge water.

The storage capacity of the dam, built with the efforts of the citizens and logistical support from the Nizwa Charitable Team, exceeds 200,000m3, according to initial estimates.
