One hundred and twelve more debtors were released from prisons at the end of Ramadan through the Fak Kurbah initiative run by the Omani Lawyers Association (OLA).
The initiative helps raise funds to pay off debts of people serving sentences in insolvency cases.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, an OLA official said, “Before Eid al Fitr, we succeeded in securing the release of more detainees by settling all their financial obligations, taking the total number freed to 666 this year so far.”
The 112 released before Eid al Fitr were through eight courts in six governorates – Muscat (36), Buraimi (34), South Batinah (19), North Batinah (16), Al Wusta (four) and North Sharqiyah (three).
Now in its eighth edition, Fak Kurbah was launched on April 1 this year and will continue until May 31. Those willing to contribute to the cause can donate through Bank Muscat A/C No 0317024849660014.
