The Yanqul Charity Team’s welfare work this Ramadan include an initiative called Ma’awa, or ‘Shelter’, through which it facilitates construction of houses for needy families. The team currently maintains 22 houses of needy families in the wilayat of Yanqul, Dhahirah governorate.
Suad Abdullah al Alawi, head of the charity team, said, “We are cooperating with the Zakat Committee of the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs. Ma’awa benefits families that have been unsuccessful in obtaining a housing loan from any government agency.”
Founded in 2011, the team’s 300 volunteers are dedicated to improving the living conditions of needy families in Yanqul. It operates under the umbrella of the Social Development Committee of the Ministry of Social Development.
Besides the Ma’awa initiative, this Ramadan Yanqul Charity Team has distributed iftar meals and given away 800 food baskets containing rice, honey, dates and vegetables. Additionally, Oman Charitable Organization has provided the team 800 purchase vouchers for distribution among needy families during the month, Alawi informed.
Till March this year, the team supported social security families, the elderly and orphans at a cost of R10,743.
