Donation portal raises RO672,083 this Ramadan

The sultanate’s one-stop donations portal ( has raised RO672,083 in the first 20 days of Ramadan, which is more than the average monthly donations it receives. 

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has unprecedented economic repercussions on Oman, but it has not dampened the spirit of sharing and caring in the people in the sultanate. 

Since April 14, the first day of Ramadan, the portal’s average daily collection was RO30,000, accounting for RO587,910 till April 30 – the first 17 days of the month. Till May 3 noon, it had collected an additional RO84,173. 

Last year, close to 81,000 donors gave RO1.17mn during Ramadan, an amount usually received in a calendar year by the portal. The previous highest collection during Ramadan was RO428,621 recorded in 2019. 

The total donations since the beginning of this year is RO1,290,264, through 92,463 donors, taking the total amount since the launch of the portal in 2009 to over RO8.74mn. 

The top four charities which received the maximum donations this year include the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs’ Zakat Division (RO192,736), Oman Charitable Organization (RO181,030), Dar al Atta’a Charity (RO176,135) and Al Rahma Association for Motherhood and Childhood (RO107,211). 

The charity with the most donations on the portal since 2009 is Oman Charitable Organization (RO2,195,303) followed by Dar al Atta’a Charity (RO1,410,834) and Al Rahma Association for Motherhood and Childhood (RO1,381,550). 

The portal, which is managed by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in association with the Ministry of Social Development, includes 49 charitable organisations that serve a number of areas including motherhood and childhood, environment, zakat and sadqah, building mosques and Q’uran schools, and social care for people with special needs, orphans, the sick and low-income families.

This year, the portal includes several charitable organisations that are collecting donations to help those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially laid off workers and small business owners.
