Oman, Iran hold political talks

A round of political talks was held on Wednesday between the sultanate and the Islamic Republic of Iran. 

According to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, the Omani side was chaired by H E Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, while Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the other side.

The meeting dealt with various aspects of bilateral relations between the friendly countries and the affirmation of the common desire to enhance cooperation in various fields. 

The two sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, and affirmed respect for the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, the United Nations Charter and the support of the international system based on the rule of law, equality, justice and strengthening the endeavours and means to achieve security and stability. 

As well as the importance of resolving issues and conflicts by peaceful means through dialogue between the various parties to achieve global peace and harmony was highlighted.

The two sides agreed on the importance of continuing consultations and exchanging views between them on various regional and global issues and developments.

They agreed to address the coronavirus pandemic unitedly, stressing the importance of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, exchanging relevant experiences and information, and strengthening efforts to control and prevent its spread.

The meeting was attended by a number of officials from the Foreign Ministries of the two countries.
