The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has signed an agreement with Afaaq Consultation Company to invest in and establish a modern fish collection centre in Ras Madraka in Duqm.
The agreement was signed by H E Eng Yaqoub bin Khalfan al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Fisheries in the ministry, and Mohammed bin Mubarak al Damiri, chairman of the Board of Directors of Afaaq Consultation.
The project, to be built on an area of 5,000sqm, includes a fish-handling hall, cold stores and ice-producing factory, in addition to other facilities, such as shops, rest houses for fishermen and transporters, and workshops for repairing boats.
The project aims to raise the quality of fish products.
The ministry said it will also facilitate all beneficiaries obtaining fish products (transporters, companies, merchants, retailers, owners of fish sales shops and restaurants), controlling the quality of fish products, implementing controls and legislations concerned with organising fish marketing and distributing fish to meet the needs of the market.
