Passengers at Oman’s airports down by 77.5 per cent

The total number of passengers through the sultanate’s airports in January 2021 went down by 77.5 per cent to reach 357,923, compared to 1,590,648 passengers in January 2020. 

The preliminary data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information showed that the number of flights through Muscat, Salalah, Sohar and Duqm airports in January this year reached 3,035, compared to 11,316 in the same period in 2020. 

The number of passengers through Muscat International Airport, including arrivals, departures and transfers, decreased by 78.5 per cent in January to reach 308,455 compared to 1,434,317 in January 2020, while the number of flights decreased by 74.4 per cent to reach 2,587 compared 10,104 flights in the same period. 

According to the data people from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan constituted the most passengers at Muscat International Airport during the month of January 2021. The number of Indian passengers reached 8,395 (arrivals 8,135 and departures 260), Bangladeshis 31,671 (departures 31,671) and from Pakistan 923 passengers (arrivals 248 and departures 675). 

As for Salalah Airport, the number of passengers reached 4,593, a decrease of 62 per cent, compared to 118,771 passengers in January 2020. The number of flights went down by 57.1 per cent to 394 flights compared to 918 in January 2020. 

The total number of domestic flights at Duqm Airport till the end of January 2021 reached 54 while the number of passengers was 4,375, compared to 52 flights and 4,985 passengers in January 2020.
