Call for donations as blood supplies drop

19 Apr 2021

With limited time available during Ramadan and movement restrictions in place, the number of blood donors has dropped. In view of the shortage, the Central Blood Bank has called on both citizens and residents to come forward to donate and support healthcare facilities which urgently need blood.

The bank said that during the period of the night lockdown, donors can contact it to book an appointment for their donation and obtain blood donor permits.

Donors can contact the blood bank through WhatsApp No 94555648 and submit their information along with their ID.

‘A copy of the blood donor permit will be sent through  WhatsApp after the donor confirms the appointment,’ it said.

The permit will be temporary and is limited to the day indicated in the permit.

The blood bank is open in two shifts – 8am to 12.30pm and 7pm to 11.30pm. The deadline for platelet donation is 10pm.
