As part of its efforts to protect agricultural crops, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is using drones along with traditional methods to spray pesticides over large areas in order to combat dubas bug in palms in several governorates.
The ministry has started a pesticides spraying campaign to combat the spread of the bug in an area of 6,500 acres in the wilayats of North and South Sharqiyah.
An official at the ministry, said, “A team of specialists recently began a campaign against dubas bug in 6000 acres of the villages of Samail, Izki and Nizwa in Dakhliyah governorate.” The team has also targeted 1,200 acres in Muscat, 470 acres in the wilayat of Mahdah in Buraimi.
“The ministry used drones to spray pesticides in some villages in Samail, Nizwa and Izki as part of its efforts to introduce modern technology in the speedy completion of tasks,” said the official.
The ministry is cooperating with Wakan Tech to use drones in spraying operations.
