Muscat Municipality has announced that working hours of Mawaleh Central Fruits and Vegetables Market for customers and merchants will change to 9am to 5pm during Ramadan.
The municipality informed that entry for customers to the market will continue from Gate No 2 and wholesalers plying chiller lorries and trucks weighing three tonnes and more will have access from Gate No 1.
To ensure availability of goods, stability of price and suppliers adhere to laws and legislation related to consumer protection, Sulayem bin Ali al Hikmani, chairman of Consumer Protection Authority, did an inspection tour of the market prior to the beginning of Ramadan. He met suppliers and emphasised the importance of the market to consumers considering the fact that it accounts for 40 per cent of total sales of fruits and vegetables in the country.
“I urge sellers to continue their cooperation with the authority through their commitment to prices and not to take advantage of the occasion to raise prices, while not neglecting the precautionary measures against COVID-19 infection,” he said.
