Night movement ban from today

The night movement ban for vehicles and individuals imposed by the Supreme Committee dealing with COVID-19 developments comes into effect on Sunday. The 8pm-5am ban will be in place till Thursday, April 8.

The Supreme Committee said the period from April 1 to May 31 could be extremely critical for the COVID-19 situation in Oman. 

‘To avoid the worst, the Supreme Committee will take a series of tougher and more comprehensive measures that may culminate in lockdown and total ban on movement during the mentioned period,’ a statement from the Supreme Committee read.

The night movement ban was announced on Thursday.

According to the decision all commercial activities, movement of individuals and vehicles will be prohibited during that time. Also, the decision to allow students to continue classes in public schools by means of distance education has been extended until April 8. Grade 12 students will continue to follow blended education.

Activities exempted from ban

Transportation of health workers, emergency vehicles and emergency services (electricity and water only), private hospitals, pharmacies on night shift, port and airport traffic, trucks over three tonnes, workers in factories with employees not allowed to move outside, fuel stations on night shift, workers in press and media institutions, and oil fields.
