Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), represented by Omani Studies Centre (OSC), will host an international conference on ‘Omani Heritage and its Sustainability’ on March 29 and 30. The conference will be held online.

As per a statement, due to the importance of the civilisational heritage and its significance for the current and future generations, the event will address all aspects of Omani architecture past, present and future.

More than 20 research papers will be presented during the conference. There will be presenters from different countries around the world to share their thoughts and their research findings on the conference topic.

Presenters will be from Iraq, Kenya, Egypt, Algeria, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Oman. The papers will cover seven themes, including Omani architecture and its historical aspects, the economic aspects of Omani architecture (tourism, agriculture, etc), the efforts in documenting and listing Omani sites, and local, regional and international experiences in architectural heritage preservation.

Researchers, students, practitioners and all those who are interested can register on the OSC website to attend the conference (www.squ.edu.om/research/Re search-Centers/Omani-Studies).

OSC is one of the university’s research channels that focuses on the Omani society. The centre offers a perfect harmony between research activities, community events, library collections and academic activities which reflect the social and cultural needs of the Omani society.
