13 Mar 2021

The number of people in institutional isolation centres has reached more than 11,000, according to the Ministry of Social Development.

Of the total, ten per cent are Omanis. Institutional health isolation was made compulsory for incoming passengers from February 10.

H E Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed al Shamsi, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Social Development and head of the Relief and Shelter Sector, said, “The number of hotels registered within the scope of relief and shelter is 482 across the sultanate. The Governorate of Muscat has the maximum number of hotels – 200.”

On the requests of private sector institutions to have institutional isolation at their sites, H E Shamsi said, “The requests of 33 private institutions were approved after verifying all the necessary health measures and procedures. A tripartite committee from the Relief and Shelter Sector, the Royal Oman Police and the Ministry of Health has been formed to follow up on these institutions’ commitment to health procedures.”

He said devices are being installed in all hotels offering quarantine to facilitate monitoring of violators of institutional isolation measures.
