Al Mouj Muscat to get National Museum Corner

8 Mar 2021

The National Museum signed an agreement with Al Mouj Muscat on Monday for a collaboration that will help raise awareness on Oman’s cultural heritage.

As per the agreement, the National Museum will lend a number of museum exhibits and pieces of art created by local artists for display at Al Mouj Muscat’s new Community Hub. The pact also states that the museum will manage a library of cultural resources, ‘The National Museum Corner’, located within the iconic Community Hub and will have opportunities to host cultural events at its public spaces.

The agreement was signed at Al Mouj Muscat’s Community Hub by Jamal bin Hassan al Moosawi, secretary general of the National Museum, and Nasser bin Masoud al Sheibani, CEO of Al Mouj Muscat.

The National Museum is the sultanate’s flagship cultural institution, showcasing the nation’s heritage from the earliest human settlement in the Oman peninsula some 2mn years ago through to the present day. Situated in Muscat, it houses 5,466 objects and offers 43 digital immersive experiences and is dedicated to ensuring Oman’s cultural heritage is understood, preserved and appreciated.

The museum’s promise of providing exhibits, running a Knowledge Corner and organising events sits within its wider aims of providing opportunities for cultural expression, innovation and the transfer of traditional skills and knowledge from one generation to the next.

Moosawi said, “This cooperation agreement between the National Museum and Al Mouj Muscat aims to foster mutual collaboration in the cultural field according to the stated goals of the National Museum that seeks to propagate Omani culture, as well as maintain a direct link between Omanis and their heritage. Additionally, it aims to convey the importance of Oman’s cultural heritage to domestic and international audiences, and emphasise the cultural experience within the premises.”

On the occasion, Sheibani said, “As a diverse community, Al Mouj Muscat remains authentic to Oman’s cultural heritage and we are always on the lookout for ways to ensure it is communicated and appreciated within the society. As a national institution with global outreach, the National Museum is working at providing opportunities for cultural expression and celebrate Oman’s heritage in an innovative way, and this is an ethos echoed by Al Mouj Muscat.

“Our brand-new Community Hub is the perfect setting for the displays and we are looking forward to seeing them arrive over the coming weeks and months and know they will be enjoyed by everyone living and working in our community as well as the thousands of visitors we welcome here every day.”

Al Mouj Muscat’s new Community Hub is an architecturally impressive building situated along the main boulevard that houses a high-tech Sales and Experience Centre, a large mosque with capacity for 500 worshippers, a nursery, a retail area, and public landscaped spaces. As a central focal point located adjacent to The Walk, it is the ideal place for art and cultural displays.

Set along 6km of beautiful coastline, Al Mouj Muscat is the sultanate’s leading leisure and lifestyle destination, and a joint venture between Majid al Futtaim Properties, Omran and Tanmia. Al Mouj Muscat is home to 85 nationalities and 6,000 people and its Integrated Tourism Complex (ITC) status in Oman provides non-Omani buyers the opportunity to enjoy freehold ownership of their property as well as residency for themselves and their first-degree relatives.
