The Environment Authority (EA) has expressed its gratitude to the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulances (PACDA) for their prompt response and cooperation in dealing with a fire in a sidr tree in Amerat.
‘The authority regrets recurrence of such incidents of fire destroying perennial trees, the latest one being due to the recklessness of a group of tourists who lit a cooking fire near these trees. They did not extinguish the fire when they left the site,’ EA said in a statement.
The authority called upon everyone to realise the importance of preserving the natural resources of the sultanate, especially the perennial trees that are difficult to replace. It urged people to report any violation of the Omani environment on its hotline number 80071999.
