Oman Fisheries Company (OFC), in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, has reopened a fish factory in Al Ashkharah in South Sharqiyah governorate.
A statement issued by OFC said, ‘The company reopened the fish factory after completing additional construction and development works. The factory aims to support artisanal fishermen.’
The factory is now equipped with advanced, more efficient freezing devices, which raise its capacity to 60 tonnes per day.
‘The capacity of its cold stores was increased to 220 metric tonnes in addition to an ice factory that produces 20 tonnes of ice per day.’
According to the company, the factory aims to purchase approximately 60 tonnes of fish per day from artisanal fishermen in the governorates of Al Wusta and South Sharqiyah.
‘The equipment in the factory is of latest technologies and will reduce the time period of production,’ OFC stated.
