App for camel auctions launched as annual festival begins in Adam

A first-of-its-kind mobile application to aid camel breeders and owners buy the best racing animals was launched on Monday at the headquarters of Al Bashayer Arabian Camel Racecourse in the wilayat of Adam,  Dakhliyah governorate.

Ahmed bin Salem al Junaibi, creator of the app, said, “We launched it in conjunction with the activities of the fourth round of the Al Bashayer Arabian Camel Festival. The app provides multiple services for owners of camels for racing and comes in line with the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. It also provides facilities for camel owners in the buying and selling process, providing complete information about pedigree and performance of the camels listed in the app.” 

He informed that the app helps camel owners and breeders buy and sell their animals directly without an intermediary. The app is available to camel owners is various governorates of the sultanate and GCC states. 

Meanwhile, the fourth round of the Al Bashayer Arabian Camel Festival kicked off in Adam on Monday. 

The festival is being organised by the office of Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, in coordination with the Al Bashayer Arabian Camel Racecourse. 

Close to 1,800 camels from the sultanate and other GCC states are taking part in the five-day event.

The first day of the race witnessed 14 races in different categories.

The Al Bashayer festival represents a variety of sports, social and economic values. The festival is organised annually at the Al Bashayer racecourse and for this year’s event, the venue has undergone some expansion work in order to host more activities.

The festival highlights the support accorded by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to camel racing and such events representing Oman’s heritage. 

The festival also serves as an important source of livelihood to camel owners, coaches and cameleers.
