A workshop has highlighted the importance of oral history and its scientific value in research and studies.
It was conducted by Dr Abdulaziz bin Hilal al Kharusi as part of the Omani Cultural Heritage Strategic Research Programme of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
Presented through the Microsoft Teams application, and entitled ‘Oral History, Memory of a Nation’, it was held for members of the research teams participating in the ‘Omani Figures Involved in Trade and Industry’ project from the governorates of Muscat, Dhofar, Musandam and Dakhliyah. Data collectors of these teams and their collaborators, as well as those interested in Omani oral history from outside the research teams also took part in the workshop.
Moderated by Dr Suleiman bin Omeir al Mahdhori, a member of the management team of the Omani Figures Involved in Trade and Industry project, the workshop was conducted as part of the training plan for the management of that project.
The national team in the project recently organised a similar training workshop presented by the researcher Ali al Riyami on oral interviews, methods of preparation, procedure and analysis.
