Adam – The fourth round of the Al Bashayer Arabian Camel Festival will be held in the wilayat of Adam, Dakhliyah governorate, from February 15 to 20. A large number of camel owners from the sultanate and other GCC countries will take part in the annual event.
Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, said, “The Al Bashayer festival is a sports event that represents a variety of sporting, social and economic values. We are keen to organise the festival on an annual basis at the Al Bashayer racecourse, which will have a new look this year after the completion of expansion works undertaken so that it can host all sorts of activities.”
In a statement to ONA, Sayyid Asaad highlighted the Royal support accorded by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the festival. He noted that the event serves as an important source of livelihood to camel owners, cameleers and coaches. “Popular interest in our heritage helps such activities survive from generation to generation,” he added.
Sayyid Asaad described the Al Bashayer festival as a “gathering of love and fraternity between camel owners in the sultanate and their GCC counterparts”.
He said he expects to see a large turnout of competitors vie for the top titles and that participants will prepare thoroughly with trainers and coaches for the festival.
Sayyid Asaad informed that other segments of society earn well from the festival by marketing their products and supplies to camel owners and cameleers.
The department tasked with the Al Bashayer camel racecourse has overcame various challenges to present the event for all sections of society while ensuring all necessary precautionary measures are observed.
