Indian Embassy celebrates 72nd Republic Day of India

The Embassy of India in Muscat celebrated the 72nd Indian Republic Day on Tuesday. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event was limited to embassy officials and staff. However, it was telecast live, enabling the Indian community to join the celebration virtually. Before the commencement of the event, a video highlighting the COVID-19 cooperation with India’s friends and partners across the world, including the delivery of life saving medicines and COVID19 vaccines was played. 

The event started with the unfurling of the Indian flag by H E Munu Mahawar, Ambassador of India to Oman, followed by the national anthem. H E Mahawar delivered a brief speech and read out excerpts from the address of President Ram Nath Kovind of India. The ambassador greeted the Indian community in Oman and thanked them for their outstanding support during the COVID-19 pandemic and for strengthening India’s friendly relations with Oman. 

H E Mahawar highlighted the recent initiatives of the Government of India, including the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan and stated that the Indian diaspora in Oman would have an important role to play in it. The ambassador also thanked the Oman government for taking good care of the Indian nationals during the pandemic and stated that India can be a strong and resilient partner in all priority areas under Oman Vision 2040.

Videos of patriotic songs by students of Indian School Muscat and by Neha Vishal Shah were played after the speech by H E Mahawar, adding to the sense of patriotism and enthusiasm in the celebration. Indian nationals joined the online celebration.
