Let’s Read’s writing competition announced

The Dar al Atta’a Let’s Read Committee, in association with Clair cleaning products, has announced the launch of its 15th Annual Children’s Writing Competition. Students from the ages of eight to 18 years are invited to submit a ‘Story from Oman’.

Jane Jaffer, chairperson of Let’s Read, said that the entries will be judged according to the following criteria: The setting, the characters and the plot. Entrants should provide a vivid description of the place, create credible and memorable characters, and write an exciting story full of drama and suspense. 

Jane added that additional points will be given to entrants who submit an accompanying illustration. Winners will be presented prizes and may see their work in print. 

Sami al Lawati from Clair said, “We are delighted to support this Let’s Read initiative and we look forward to presenting the winners with great prizes.”

Stories submitted can be one of the following – a story based on Omani folklore and retold, a completely fictional story set in Oman, or a personal account of something that happened in Oman. The entries can be written in English or Arabic. The word count must not exceed 500. Every entry should include the name, age, phone number and email address of the entrant and the school email address.

All entries should be submitted at the Let’s Read Charity Book Shop on the third floor of Oman Avenues Mall or sent by email to [email protected] 

Deadline for submission – April 3.
