Land borders closed till Feb 1

The Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic has decided to extend the closure of the sultanate’s land borders for one more week till 6pm of February 1, 2021.

The Supreme Committee stated that as per recommendations of the specialised technical team on the spread of the new COVID-19 strain and in a bid to protect all individuals of society against the disease, it decided to keep land borders closed for one more week. 

It added that the committee has monitored updates of the pandemic and ways to protect people against it, as well as means to curb its spread.

‘The Supreme Committee is following up and assessing the epidemiological situation in the sultanate and the increase in the number of infected cases and those admitted in ICUs and hospital wards, in addition to the carelessness observed among some individuals in implementing precautionary measures approved by the authorities concerned,’ it said. The committee is also following up the global updates of the pandemic.
