Oman has reported the first case of infection with the new strain of coronavirus in a resident expat who arrived from the UK, the Ministry of Health (MoH) announced on Tuesday, saying all procedures have been applied to deal with the infected person.
‘The ministry has announced the registration of the first case of the genetic mutation virus of the COVID-19 disease, which was recently found in the United Kingdom and many other countries,’ MoH said in a statement.
MoH stated that the new strain of the coronavirus was diagnosed in a resident who came to Oman from the United Kingdom and showed respiratory symptoms while undergoing health isolation
‘The PCR tests that were performed for the patient before his arrival and upon arrival in the sultanate were negative,’ the statement added.
Dr Saif al Abri, director general of disease surveillance and control at MoH, saidthe symptoms appeared after three days of his arrival in Oman. “We call on all people who come to Oman to quarantine themselves. It is, in fact, mandatory to do so.”
