Oman participates in Arab meet for communications ministers

The sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, last week took part in the 24th session of the Council of Arab Ministers for Communications and Information (CAMCI) held by the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Communications and Information in the Arab League.

The sultanate’s delegation was led by H E Dr Ali bin Amer al Shithani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology in the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, with the participation of a number of specialists in the ministry and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).

The virtual meeting began with reviewing results of the 38th meeting of the Permanent Arab Postal Committee (PAPC) and discussing repercussions of COVID-19 pandemic on the postal sector. 

The meeting reviewed results of the 46th meeting of the Permanent Arab Committee for Communications and Information (PACCI), in which a number of important issues were discussed. They included the joint Arab cooperation with other regional groups and organisations in the field of communications and information technology, in addition to discussing the Arab Initiative for Internet Governance. The meeting also reviewed details of the Regional Forum on Arab Digital Content and preparations for the World Telecommunication Development Conference. 

It also discussed issues of cybersecurity and combating cybercrime and terrorism, and the role of communication and information technologies in confronting the pandemic.
