The Ministry of Health (MoH), represented by the Directorate General of Pharmacy and Drug Control, on Tuesday issued a licence for the import of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in the sultanate.
The vaccine will be administered in people in the age group of 16 years and older. It will be given in two doses administered three weeks apart.
The MoH has stated that the licence will facilitate and speed up the provision of the vaccine in the sultanate for emergency use, according to the policies approved by the ministry.
‘The Directorate General of Pharmacy and Drug Control evaluated the efficacy and safety studies that were presented by the American company Pfizer upon their receipt on November 26. The ministry has confirmed that the known and potential benefits of the vaccine outweigh its risks after its approval by the health authorities in UK, Canada and by the US Food and Drug Administration,’ the ministry added.
