Occidental Oman recently announced the signing of a sponsorship agreement with the Oman Camel Racing Federation, continuing its support for the sport in the sultanate.
As per a statement, under the agreement, Occidental Oman will sponsor four camel races within the 2020/21 racing season, to be held in December 2020, and January and March of 2021.
The sponsorship agreement signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, under the auspices of H E Sheikh Rashad al Hinai, Undersecretary in the ministry. Stephen Kelly, president and general manager of Occidental Oman, and Sheikh Said bin Saud al Ghufili, chairman of the Oman Camel Racing Federation, were signatories for their respective organisations.
Occidental Oman will award each of the 20 winners of the four sponsored races with a pickup truck. Four pickup trucks will go to the winners of the first race, taking place in Haima, Al Wusta governorate. Four pickup trucks will go to the winners of second race, taking place in Adam, Dakhliyah governorate while four pickups will go to the winners the third race, taking place in Ibri, Dhahirah governorate. The remaining eight pickup trucks will go to the winners of the fourth main race, taking place in Sohar, North Batinah governorate.
“We are proud to continue our support to camel racing in the sultanate, and particularly in our concession areas. This sponsorship reflects the company’s long-standing strides with camel racing initiatives, as it is a sport and cultural tradition that is well-regarded by local communities,” said Kelly.
