Japan Embassy opens essay contest

The Embassy of Japan in the Sultanate of Oman has announced an essay contest forcitizens to highlight the rich relationship between the two countries.

Called the Oman Japan Essay Contest on ‘Oman-Japan relations based on an applicant’s experience’, the embassy said that the contest would be held in two categories – one for those under 18 years of age and the other for contestants older than 18 years. 

Essays written in Arabic must not infringe copyrights and any other rights pertaining to others, the embassy statement said, while adding that ‘essays must be written by an applicant himself or herself’. 

‘The length of the essay must be a maximum of 700 words or less. An applicant must agree with the use of his/her essay by the embassy for unprofitable purposes,’ it said.

For young contestants, the embassy said, ‘A representative such as the applicant’s parent can submit the essay on behalf of a minor applicant.’

The last date for submission of essays is December 25, and the winners will be announced by early January next year.

‘The embassy will announce the winners and their essays with their consents. If the winner happens to be a child, the embassy will get an approval from a person with parental authority,’ it added.

How to submit

1). Send a soft copy (which should be a Microsoft Word formatted file) of the essay to the embassy’s e-mail address. The file size must be less than 8MB.

2). Make sure to put the submission date, the name and the signature of the applicant under the title of the essay.

  1. An application form and letter of consent completed by the applicant himself or herself must  also to be submitted.
