The Environment Authority (EA) has resumed issuing camping permits for the Damaniyat Islands Nature Reserve in compliance with the decision of the Supreme Committee tasked with dealing with developments resulting from the spread of COVID-19.
In a statement, the EA said, ‘Based on the decision issued by the Supreme Committee to reopen beaches as of December 2, 2020, visitors can now apply for night-stay permits and visit Damaniyat Islands Nature Reserve. Precautionary measures and conditions necessary to prevent the spread of the disease must be adhered to. Visitors can apply for permits through the authority’s e-services system:www.meca.gov.om.’
The Damaniyat Islands Nature Reserve is located in the wilayat of Barka, South Batinah governorate, about 18km off the coast of Barka and 70km west of Muscat.
Spread over 100 hectares on nine islands, the reserve has a rich natural heritage and several kinds of coral reefs.
