Suhaila Nasser al Kindi, head of the tender, contracts and procurement department at be’ah, walked 890km from Muscat to Salalah to spread awareness on the importance of preserving the environment. After covering the distance in a month, Suhaila was welcomed at a special reception by Eng Ali bin Salem Omar Fadel, vice-chairman of Dhofar Municipality.
Suhaila started the trip on October 17 and ended it on November 17. Her trip ‘Darb be’ah’ (Road of Environment) took her from Muscat to Quriyat, South Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and Salalah. “I walked between seven and eight hours every day, from 5am to 9am and 3pm to 7pm. The trip began with the celebrations of Omani Women’s Day and ended with the celebrations for the 50th National Day.”
Besides raising awareness on the importance of preserving the environment and urging people to stop littering, Suhaila’s walk aimed to prove that Omani women are able to achieve their goals. Walking under the sun facing strong winds over tough terrain was a challenge she overcame owing to six months of long walks in preparation of the trip. “With the support of my husband and be’ah company, I was able to complete the journey.” She also had a support team following her during the walk. “I urge youngsters to pursue some form of sport, because a healthy mind in a healthy body is important to achieve one’s dreams,” she said.
