RO5,000 fine, 3-year jail for unapproved chemicals: EA

The Environment Authority (EA) has announced a fine of up to RO5,000 and jail term of up to three years for use of unapproved chemicals. 

In a statement, the EA said, ‘It is forbidden to import, export, transport, store or handle any chemical substance unless it is packed in special packages according to the specifications approved and recognised in the sultanate.’ 

The authority also confirmed that the user must get rid of  chemicals waste, empty containers and violating materials at their own expense in accordance with the regulations in force.

The authority stated that anyone who violates the law on the use of unapproved chemicals will be punished with imprisonment for a period not exceeding three years and a fine not exceeding RO5,000, or one of these two punishments. 

‘Chemical substances that violate the law will also be confiscated and the penalty doubled for repeat violations,’ the statement said.
