Study looks to identify asymptomatic COVID-19 infected health workers

3 Nov 2020

A study is being conducted in Oman to identify asymptomatic COVID-19 infected healthcare workers at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH) and the possibility of them infecting their coworkers or patients.

Dr Amal Nasser al Shibli, emergency medicine consultant at SQUH and the principal investigator of the study, said the study is titled ‘Identification of Asymptomatic COVID-19 Infected Healthcare Workers at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital.’

She added that any asymptomatic healthcare worker who has COVID-19 has a chance of transmitting the infection to his/her coworkers or patients.

“Unfortunately there are no studies showing the incidence of asymptomatic COVID-19 healthcare workers in SQHU, neither in any other hospital in Oman.

“Also there is no study showing if there are any specific clinical, social or demographic features which are related to spreading the infection without showing any symptoms.”

The others in the research team include Dr Mahmood al Jufaili, Dr Ibrahim al Zakwani, Dr Abdullah Balkhair, Dr Khuloud al Maamari, Dr Faisal al Azri, Dr Fatma Ba Alawi, Dr Awatif al Alawi, Azza al Qayoudhi and Hajar al Ghafri.
