Camping at Damaniyat Islands suspended

3 Nov 2020

The Environment Authority (EA) has suspended issuing camping permits at Damaniyat Islands Nature Reserve, in compliance with the decisions of the Supreme Committee in charge of dealing with developments resulting from the spread of COVID-19.

In a statement, EA said, ‘The decision will stand until the Supreme Committee issues a decision allowing people to go to the beaches.’

The Damaniyat Islands Nature Reserve is located in the wilayat of Barka in South Batinah governorate and lies about 18km off the coast of Barka (70km west of Muscat). With a total area of 100 hectares, it is spread over nine islands.

The reserve has a rich natural heritage and is replete with several kinds of coral reefs.
