A court in Muscat ordered a travel agency to pay RO1,000 as fine and sentenced its owner to a prison term of one month after he violated the Consumer Protection Law.
A statement issued by the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) said the court gave the verdict after the travel agency misled a consumer.
‘A complaint was received from a consumer stating that he had reserved five return tickets to travel from Muscat to Amman, but the travel agency reserved only one-way tickets. When the consumer later enquired about baggage limit, he was informed that only one-way tickets had been booked. This prompted the consumer to book tickets from another travel agency,’ CPA said.
‘The accused must pay the expenses (RO715) for the violation of Article 20 of the Consumer Protection Law,’ the statement added.
