Nets removed from coral reefs near Damaniyat Islands

27 Oct 2020

As part of its efforts to preserve the environment from pollution, the Environment Authority (EA), in cooperation with the Blue Water Divers team, has removed fishing nets and ropes entangled in coral reefs near the Damaniyat Islands Nature Reserve.

The authority said the cleaning activities were carried out on  coral reefs near Kasma Island near the nature reserve.

‘The Environment Authority wants to draw the attention of  fishermen on the need to engage in their work away from the islands so that their nets don’t get entangled in coral reefs due to marine currents,’ stated the authority.

Camping activities in the reserve will resume on November 1. From the beginning of May till the end of October, which is the nesting season, camping in the Damaniyat Islands Nature Reserve is prohibited.
